Hi. I am a biochemist at Lewis & Clark College studying this species. Please email me,I would like to get additional info if possible. The color is very red but I have observed a deep red-orange in other individulas from various regions. I am studying the pigmentation of this species. My work email is kgs@lclark.edu. thank you.

Bears a resemblance to
the Spotted Tussock Moth (Lophocampa maculata)....



...but it's redder than those in the Guide. Hold on to see what the lep experts have to say.

 
Redness
Even in the lightest of my photos, the red is still quite strong. Admittedly, the lighting conditions weren't the best.
