Springtime Darner - Basiaeschna janata - male

Springtime Darner - Basiaeschna janata - Male
Campbellville, Halton, Ontario, Canada
June 14, 2006
Size: ~4.5 CM
Captured at the edge of Crawford Lake, around dusk.

I thought it was a Baskettail or something when I swung for it. It seemed to small for a darner. I was plesantly suprised when I reached into the net and found a darner, my first of the season.

He was the mose uncooperative subject I have ever captured. First refusing to let go of the net, then would not stop trembling himself while I was trying to take photos. A few turned out thankfully, and also had great lighting with the near dusk light.
