Madrona Marsh Preserve, Torrance, Los Angeles County, California, USA

Size: ~ 7 mm
Landed on my arm, while walking through a vernal pool area.

Is this a Root-maggot Fly (Anthomiidae) ?
Any hints toward subfamily/genus are much appreciated !

Moved from Coenosiinae.

Moved from Muscoidea.

Thanks, John !

Reminds me of

Possibly Coenosiinae. May not be determinable from just this angle.

Coenosiinae looks good, John !
It makes sense, as Coenosiinae was moved from Anthomyiidae to Muscidae, and this specimen seems to have characteristics of both.

I added some photos from other angles.
One shows the black checkered pattern on the abdomen, often present on Coenosiinae, a bit more clearly.

Thanks for the upward mobility, John!
