I'm fairly certain this is Podabrus and appears to key to P. appendiculatus (1), but I haven't encountered many Podabrus and would appreciate any comment.

Podabrus.
You have the genus nailed. The way the head is so greatly constricted behind the eyes leaves no doubt. Plus, the front margin of the pronotum (thoracic shield) is straight, not curved as in Cantharis and related genera. I can't help with the species, though.
