Monarch caterpillar
Definitely a Monarch Caterpillar. Caterpillars of Eastern NA pg. 137.
Seed pods are from Butterfly Weed.

Sure looks like one!Is that Milkweed you found it on? The butterflies lay the eggs on the upper ends of newly sprouting milkweed plants, one egg per plant is what I understand as a plant can only support the food needs of one Caterpillar!
