Tiny Beetle - Cylindrocopturus quercus

Tiny Beetle - Cylindrocopturus quercus
Ohio River Islands NWR, Pleasants County, West Virginia, USA
June 13, 2006
Size: 3 mm
A tiny subject. As I looked at it through the viewfinder, I thought it might be only part of the husk of a beetle. Once it was up on the screen, though, I could see it was a live, complete beetle. Can anyone help with the ID?

either subfamily Conoderinae, or Ceutorhynchinae
. . . difficult to decide.

It's a weevil
and I think I recall a similar image in the guide, unclassified perhaps.

Weevils
Thanks, Jim.

I found a similar Weevil genus yesterday but no exact matches—similar color and texture and pronotum shape. I forgot to check on whether those were also tiny. I also forgot to jot down the genus name. Back to work!

LATER: I think the genus I was looking at yesterday was Conotrachelus, though after looking again I think the resemblance may be superficial.

One thing I'm not clear about is whether this beetle had a sizeable snout that was pointed downward and thus isn't visible in the photo, or if it was a nearly snoutless species.
