Ski-tipped Emerald - Somatochlora elongata - female

Ski-tipped Emerald - Somatochlora elongata - Female
south of Campbellton, Restigouche County, New Brunswick, Canada
August 24, 2011
This darner repeatedly made darting forays at a clump of vegetation, obviously trying to get at a prey species hidden inside. I watched it do this at least 20
times over several minutes. Date: 24 August 2011, one of many forestry roads in the vast area south of Campbellton. Habitat was a small wet area beside a low beaver dam that bordered the road. Discussion and other images can be seen here. She was also observed ovipositing occasionally.
