Causes spherical, 1.45-2.5 mm galls, with purple spots, single on a secondary vein on underside of
Quercus palustris, imbricaria, or
texana leaf, in fall.
(1) The images placed in this section show upperside galls on
Q. phellos and
rubra. These species seem reasonable, since they are in the red oak group along with the three species listed by Weld, and though they are on the wrong side of the leaf, there appears to be no other described gall that remotely resembles these, so either they represent an undescribed species or
Zopheroteras guttatum galls can be on either side of the leaf.
