Another kind of goldenrod gall - Schizomyia racemicola

Size: +/- 3 mm
These little goldenrod galls look like some kind of fruit or berry.But, of course goldenrods don't produce berries, so they had to be galls. A pink larva dropped out of the first one I opened. It looks like it may be Dasineura. I never saw this gall before, and I couldn't find any more of them although I searched many other plants nearby.

I had never seen these before either, but I've been seeing quite a few of them lately--except the ones I've been seeing are red. The adult may be an inquiline; this species is supposed to overwinter as larvae in the soil. Were all of these photos really taken on the same date?

They were all from the same and only cluster of galls that I found. The studio photos were taken the next day. The adults may have been there all along. I will unlink that image since it is a different species and will be in the lookout for anything else that shows up in my "mini-terrarium" aka ziplock bag.
