Fly or Wasp - Mumetopia occipitalis

Fly or Wasp - Mumetopia occipitalis
Austin, Travis County, Texas, USA
September 25, 2011
Size: couple mm
This individual was spending a lot of time preening. I'm including this picture because said preening offers a good view of the venation.

Mumetopia occipitalis
The background surface is a bit puzzling but the fly certainly looks like M.occipitalis.

Background Surface?
What do you mean by the background surface is puzzling? The fly is sitting on a vertical wall near my porch light. It's essentially paint that is probably about 15 years old. Is that what you were referring to? Or did you mean something else by background surface?

Background
The background looks like bare earth which would be an unusual place for an anthomyzid to hang out. The fact that it is sitting on the wall of a house it not so unusual. Thanks for the clarification!
