This is a species of Melanoplus.
He is related to Melanoplus differentialis, but that is not what he is. I'm going to keep looking for a name for these, but this may prove to be an unnamed species. I thought the female that was posted last year was perhaps a hybrid, but two that look this much alike makes me think that maybe this is something worth looking at more closely. Now that there is a male, I'll have a little more to work with. Do you have any other photos, perhaps one from the side, or (hopefully) one showing the end of the abdomen??? There are some candidates M. clypeatus is one) that shouldn't be found so far inland (as far as I know), but perhaps they are anyway. I got'a look up the descriptions now.

Moved from ID Request.

Melanoplus grasshopper
I have two more shots of the same individual but no good lateral or posterior shots. I'll send them anyway in case they help.

I have three shots of another individual that are similar in pattern to this, but color tends more toward green-blue (with good posterior shots), and another individual that tends more toward bright green-yellow. Let me know if you would like to see them too for comparison.

Thanks.

I think that posting them would be good
Lots of species vary in color, and if they are the same one as this, they may be very helpful in nailing this creature down. If nothing else, they sound rather attractive.
