"Blue" Spider - Pardosa
Victoria, British Columbia, Canada
April 15, 2006
Size: 1 1/2 centimetres

Moved
Moved from Wolf Spiders.

Wolf Spider
That's a wolf spider (Lycosidae). The blue thing is its egg sac. Not only do the females cary around the egg sac, but they will also carry around the spiderlings on their back!
Welcome to Bugguide!
(I am from Victoria myself)

"Blue Spider"
Thanks, Sean!! It's been driving me nuts-I looked all over the internet to no avail.
This is a way cool site!

We agree with Wolf Spider
though we don't know enough to even guess at a genus. Don't know which part of the spider was blue, but to us, the blue behind the spider looks more like one of the stones in the image than an egg sac. Difficult to tell for sure. If you look through the images in the guide, you will see wolf spiders carrying eggs in exactly that position, but usually the spider herself will look very shriveled from laying all those eggs!
