unknown arboreal ant - Colobopsis etiolata

unknown arboreal ant - Colobopsis etiolata
San Marcos, Hays County, Texas, USA
July 26, 2009
Size: 5 mm
This was one of several ants captured by beating foilage of cedar elm. Other individuals of presumably the same species did not have the "block" shaped head. Not a great shot. I'll frass when I find out the species.

Moved
Moved from Colobopsis hunteri.

The top of the truncated portion of the head is rounded on hunteri but comes to a sharp lip on etiolata as seen in the image.

Moved
Maybe not the best image, but an intereting new record of this species at the guide.

Does this cast use it's head ....
