Unknown Moth - Apantesis parthenice

Unknown Moth - Apantesis parthenice
Waxhaw, Union County, North Carolina, USA
October 6, 2011
This moth was very cleverly disguised among the leaf litter lying on the ground.

probably Grammia parthenice - Hodges #8196
Moved from ID Request.

Do you know the (forewing) length?

Virgin Tiger Moth...Maybe?
Well, it looks something like a Virgin Tiger Moth - Hodges#8197 (Grammia virgo).

However, I'm not yet an expert on moths and there are several species of the genus Grammia found in N. Carolina that look almost exactly like yours. So, I can't say for sure with any reasonable measure of confidence.

Hopefully, one of the experts here can positively I.D. it for you.

BTW - A photo of the hind wings and a ventral shot would go a long way in helping to positively identify it.
