Did you find any spiders in the vicinity? The shape and edge remind me of ground spider egg sacs or ground sac spider egg sacs. Compare with the following Trachelas egg sac

 
Interesting. I spotted this o
Interesting. I spotted this one in a tree some time ago and I kept procrastinating about getting a picture. Judging by the discoloration of the leaf around the webbing, though, I probably first noticed it well after the young hatched. I noticed the discoloration when I took a needle-nosed scissors to open it up and it came off the leaf. I'll take a measurement tomorrow.

I'd say wait to see if anyone can confirm family... if not then move to unidentified spider egg sacs.
