Spharagemon collare - female

Spharagemon collare - Female
Hwy. 71, ~13 ml. n. Scottsbluff, Sioux County, Nebraska, USA
September 18, 2011
Size: 37 mm
Very abundant in sandhills. This species had a good season this year in the Rocky Mountain and Great Plains states (at least north of the drought areas). I found it abundantly across Utah, Wyoming, Montana, South Dakota, Nebraska, and Colorado, pretty much everywhere I went that had decent habitat for it.

This is the "collared" form. I think the pale "collared" pattern is the basis for the species name - "collare". Several species of Spharagemon, Trimerotropis, and Conozoa have this or a similar color variant.
