Four-spotted Dragonfly - Sympetrum vicinum

Four-spotted Dragonfly - Sympetrum vicinum
Seabrook, New Hampshire, USA
October 9, 2011
Size: Approximately 2" long
This dragonfly has four rusty-red colored spots on its wings. The eyes and body appear to be brown, but may be faded red? This one seemed to be enjoying the sunshine while sitting on the dried up branch of a basil plant in one of my Earthboxes. It would occasionally fly up into the air, but would always circle around and come back to the very same spot. I watched it do this over and over, for about 20 minutes.
