If there is no notch in back of the eye and there are strong bristles on the anepisternum, it should be Pholeomyia.

I'll defer to your best judgement, John. If so, I'll be pleased to add a new genus to the guide. I probably have this specimen somewhere around here, so if there's another trait you'd like me to look for or/and photograph, please let me know. The more precise the instructions, the better.

I was excited when I collected it, but I didn't know what it was and so didn't think to look around for what it might be freeloading on. (I'd previously seen freeloading flies of a different taxon, glomming onto the prey of a lynx spider. So cool!)
