This spider was resting on the side of our house in Northern Minnesota at around 4:30 PM.

Must be an old female Araneus marmoreus
Their body shrivels when they lay their eggs. The color is unusual, so let's wait to see what Lynette says.

 
Araneus
Since the pattern is so hidden due to the shriveled abdomen I wasn't sure how to tell Araneus marmoreus from A. trifolium, but then I realized that A. marmoreus has more of that brown femur while A. trifolium has that large white band.
