Probably correct
I'll check for other possibilities, but I think you've got it right. This is an adult male (which makes it a lot easier to double check than if it were a female). There are a lot of look-alike short-winged
Melanoplus
species, but I don't think any others from your area look just like this. In the mean time I'll move him to the genus so he's easier to locate later.

I look forward to hearing from you again on this one. I've been puzzling over him for days, and trying to narrow down the possibilities based on range maps, antenna length, wing length, femur color, eye stripe, pronotal shape, etc. I see differential grasshoppers all the time, but all other species are foreign to me. I'm trying to learn, and I really appreciate your help. :)
