Looks like a praying mantis egg sac. =) We have had them all over our rosemary bushes and mums.

Egg sac
I brought it home and put it in a jar. I want to see it hatch. I wonder what the incubation period is? Of course I don't know how long it has been sitting.

outside
I was told that if you don't leave it outside where it is cold, it will hatch prematurely and the babies will eat each other because there won't be any other food. One guy even said that he made that mistake and came home to HUNDREDS of baby mantises all over his wall and lamp. They got through window screen. If you leave it outside it won't hatch until spring.

Hatching
Thank you. I will put it outside in a safe place and keep an eye. It looks like I have quite a wait!

Here in PA
They normally hatch in May. It's really fun to watch! =)

wait
I have one that I found in our garden and am also waiting for it to hatch. I have it safely tucked away outside. I have never seen one hatch...I can't wait.
