It's hard to see the abundant dorsal standing pilosity because of the light background, but the size and dense pubescence obscuring the sheen of the gaster are good indication of the ID, also. From a sandy, or at least, acid soil habitat, may we presume?

Formica dolosa
This was from a ski slope that does have a sandy soil, and the same area I've found Formica dolosa in the past. Thanks James.
