Moths - Cisthene tenuifascia

Moths - Cisthene tenuifascia
Madrona Ranger Station, Rincon Mts, Pima County, Arizona, USA
October 22, 2011
Size: 8mm

Hard to tell from side views alone.
I'm not sure but this may represent two different species. Top views of each of these would help a lot. The PM band on the upper moth is oblique and appears like that of Angel Lichen Moth, but I can't tell if the top center of the thorax is yellow also, which would be diagnostic. On the moth to the side, it looks perhaps like Barnes' Lichen Moth which should have a gray vertex (top of head) but again I can't be sure of that from this angle; I think it is.

Any other images of the many lichen moths on that Baccharis from that day??

Hi Margarethe
Do you recall the flower they're feeding on?

Yes they were all over
Baccharis, both sarothroides and salicifolia. Hundreds on every bush

Cisthene tenuifascia - Hodges #8066
