Hackberry leaf galls - Celticecis aciculata

Hackberry leaf galls - Celticecis aciculata
Uptown New Orleans, my yard, Orleans Parish, Louisiana, USA
October 24, 2011
Size: ~2.5mm
Hackberry leaf galls. I'm not sure what species the trees in my yard are, but it shouldn't be too much trouble to find out.

Host plant...
...looks like Sugarberry (Celtis laevigata): leaves with smooth, toothless margins and non-hairy veins on leaf underside. Hackberry (C. occidentalis) and Dwarf Hackberry (C. tenuifolia) both have toothed leaf margins. Louisiana stands out on the national PLANTS map because it reportedly has Sugarberrry but not Hackberry.

Thanks for the ID assistance!
That is a big help. I can return the favor and inform you that the PLANTS database is incorrect. I'd never noticed it before, but I just ran out back to doublecheck, and my other hackberry tree definitely does have toothed leaves.

My yard is tiny, and the two Celtis trees are right next to each other, so I assumed they were the same and never looked closely at them. So much for being a keen observer of nature!

Trees, Shrubs, and Woody Vines of Louisiana (Allen, Newman and Winters 2002) lists C. laevigata (which is hard to distinguish from C. occidentalis) from 60 parishes, C. reticulata from 10 parishes, and C. tenuifolia from 16 parishes.
