Ambush Bug -
Phymata americana
N. Unit, Illinois Beach State Park, Lake County, Illinois, USA
October 25, 2011
Size: ~10 mm
I believe this is Physmata americana, but I've never seen one and thought I'd get a second opinion before moving it to the species page.

Phymata americana
Ken's comments are completely valid although this specimen does seem to be
P. americana
. The more rounded connexiva (versus the distinct flair in
P. pennsylvanica
) help identify this species. Most Midwestern
Phymata
will be one of those two species.

I should have mentioned...
...that I don't know anything about the ranges, either. :)
I'll have to keep this info in mind. Thanks!

Phymata
for sure. But there are 17 species in N.A., and only four of them are represented in the Guide. Until I know what the other 13 look like, and where they're found, I'm leaving these at the genus level. :)

Fair enough
I made the mistake of assuming the guide had them all. Thanks.
