Explanation of Names
Both "minus" and "cula" mean small (1), and this is one of North America's smallest dragonflies.

One of 7 Nearctic species in the genus.
Size
25 mm length
Identification
In mature males, look for small size, blue coloration, and segments 8-10 of the abdomen black. Appendages are white. Face is metallic blue to black.
Range
Mostly southeastern U.S., but occasionally found as far north as Pennsylvania and New York.
Habitat
Ponds, lakes, sometimes small rivers.
Season
Spring to Fall.
Food
Tiny flying insects.
