Size: a few milimetres
This small [calyptrate] fly was feeding on a cecidomyiid midge in an urban backyard. Did not observe it catching the midge, but it looks suspicious. Two images available.

Sounds reasonable and it probably is a calyptrate, not acalyptrate as previously thought.
