Thanks for the ID. I've added a dorsal view, hopefully showing the critical area of the pronotum. These beetles are seen every year at Halloween time in a local cemetary; I have an ecology lab that does a life table lab there every other year, and the zoology class collects in the off years. The numbers do seem to cycle; they were down this year in a wet but warm autumn. We only collected 3 individuals vs. perhaps 10 last year; and we did not collect them all last year by any means.
