Moth - Acoloithus falsarius

Moth - Acoloithus falsarius
Churchville Nature Center, Bucks County, Pennsylvania, USA
June 21, 2006
This moth had a foot caught in one of the slits of a common milkweed flower (Asclepias syriaca) and couldn't escape. It is somewhat similar to a yellow collared scape moth but much smaller and the collar is not complete. The antennae seem to be bipectinate. I can't find it in the guide.

Have you considered Ctenucha?

It would have to be a very worn specimen to look like this, though - I don't see any indication of metallic blue on this one. It doesn't appear to be one of the lookalikes, Harrisina or Cisseps, though.

Too small!
It is a lot smaller than any of those, maybe 10 mm long or so and it doesn't look like the Ctenuchas or Cisseps that I found in other ocassions.

Could it be,
Hodges 4629- Acoloithus falsarius?

Thanks
It looks right, the collar and the size fit well. Thank you.

Guess we should add this look-alike
to the growing list of similar black-with-yellow-collar moths!
