springtail - Entomobrya atrocincta - female

springtail - Entomobrya atrocincta - Female
Long Beach, Los Angeles County, California, USA
November 3, 2011
Size: 1-2mm
Got a new camera a couple days ago. I'm sure =v= will be happy to hear that. Now when I encounter cool and unusual bugs I might actually be able to walk away with a decent shot. This springtail was my first real supermacro test ... is it female Entomobrya atrocincta?

Entomobrya atrocincta forma nigrocincta, female
It sure looks like one ;-)
Peculiar to this specimen are the antennae. Normally they should count 4 subsegments. This specimen only counts 3. This is an indication that both antennae have been broken after which the specimen has moulted and the antennae are partly recovered.
