Coleoptera species, sw TN - Tetracha virginica
Meeman-Shelby Forest State Park, Shelby County, Tennessee, USA

Size: 15mm
On a sunny, late afternoon, I saw this beautiful, shiny green beetle scurrying quickly across the gravel pathway between the hardwood bottomland forest on one side and agricultural and wild fields on the other.

Moved from ID Request. Very nice image, thanks for sharing!

Tetracha virginica
A flightless tiger beetle. Usually nocturnal.

So interesting -
thanks for the add'l info - not all in the guide. Interesting that it is flightless! (I would have been more bold in getting a good photo angle, had I known)

Not the best angle, but...
I wonder if it might be something close to this:

Wait and see if the experts feel the same way. :)

Thanks, Ken - should I
always try to get a dorsal view of coleopteras? It's sometimes a choice between the angles when only having time for ONE photo before it runs away!

If you can get only one shot of a beetle,
A straight-on dorsal view is often the most helpful--and least that's what the beetle experts seem to prefer. :)

Dorsal image added..
but it's a bit blurry. I forgot that I managed to get two shots. Hope it helps (if not I'm sure it'll get frassed!) :-)
