Aderid - Elonus basalis

Aderid - Elonus basalis
Pelham, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, USA
June 22, 2006
Size: 3 mm
Spotted this pretty beetle on the side of my vehicle, whipped out my pocket vial (an empty Krazy Glue outer tube), placed the opening below the beetle and "threatened" it from above with the red vial lid, at which point it dropped into the vial. Knowing a little insect psychology is helpful :-)

Due to the punctuation, pelage, and general habitus, I'm pretty sure this is an anth*icid or an*t-like flo*wer beetle. If so, that makes three species I've encountered in the space of a few weeks.

Subtract one from your anthicid total for the week.

I'll take an aderid any day!
Thank you, Don.
