Hymenoptera pollinator - Tennessee - Eumenes fraternus

Hymenoptera pollinator - Tennessee - Eumenes fraternus
SHelby Forest, Shelby County, Tennessee, USA
October 31, 2011
Size: 20mm approx
Our garden is in dense hardwood forest near the MS river. On a sunny day in late fall, there were many pollinators flying around the blooming mums. This one looks like a species of thread-waisted wasps, but I am only a beginning student observing insects...

Looks like
Eumenes fraternus:

You got it right on
I'm not used to thinking of wasps as pretty, but this one is quite elegant.
AND the name you both pinpointed- potter and mason wasps - how cool is that?
Thanks, John & Ken!
