Cicada - Hadoa townsendii

Cicada - Hadoa townsendii
Kirtland Air Force Base, Bernalillo County, New Mexico, USA
May 15, 2000

Moved from Tibicen bifidus .

Tibicen sp.
This cicada looks strikingly like Tibicen townsendii Uhler 1905 (also seen spelled T. townsendi on-line) - Please compare to T. townsendii in this image (NOTE: pinned specimen is lacking some of its original pruinosity).

Based on similarity of appearance, there is some confusion between and among the following taxa:
Tibicen bifidus/simplex group
Tibicen townsendii (townsendi)

NOTE: T. bifidus is described as having a broken white dorsal stripe running the length of the abdomen. A trait NOT seen in the cicada pictured above.

Moved from Cicadas.

Tibicen sp. (bifidus ??)
Based on the other images identified as T. bifidus here on the guide, this image seems to best fit here.

Another possibility is Tibicen townsendii - to which I'm a bit inclined (?)
