Remarks
It is probable that three phylogenetically natural divisions of Tettigoniidea can be made. These would be (with only North American families listed under each):

superfamily Tettigonioidea including family Tettigoniidae
superfamily Rhaphidophoroidae including family Rhaphidophoridae
superfamily Stenopelmatoidea including families Anostostomatidae, Gryllacrididae, Prophalangopsidae, and Stenopelmatidae,

The Rhaphidophoroidae may deserve full "infraorder" status, though this seems uncertain. Currently published classifications of the Ensifera, and of the families included in the traditional infraorder Tettigoniidea, are often in conflict; with each new publication tending to contradict elements of previous. Therefore, at present and for convenience, only the infraorder Tettigoniidea is recognized here, with no further formal subdivision between suborder and family rankings.
