Is this one of the Agallia? - Balcanocerus crataegi
Bunker Hill Forest Preserve, Chicago, Cook County, Illinois, USA
July 24, 2011

Moved
Moved from Leafhoppers. Thanks, wow, a new species to the guide. Now we wish we hadn't been in such a hurry. We'll check out the Hawthorns there next year to look for the nymphs.

Balcanocerus crataegi
Note the very large "appendix" (membranous flap around the wing tip) that is characteristic of Idiocerini. Balcanocerus is a less flattened genus than Idiocerus, with nymphs that resemble ants.

Oh...
That's a beauty!
