Acanthocephala terminalis

Acanthocephala terminalis
Wyalusing State Park, Grant County, Wisconsin, USA
June 23, 2006
I noticed this on a tree at my campsite on a weekend camping trip in southwestern Wisconsin. The lighting wasn't good as it was later in the day and in shade, so this picture is taken with flash. Based on looking through other images I think I have a leaf-footed bug, Acanthocephala terminalis, but would like to be certain. I'm uploading a second photo that shows the wings spread.

I agree.
I have a little system for identifying these - it's on the Acanthocephala guide info page.

How unusual to see the wings spread on a live specimen! Good timing!

Guide
Good guide. I didn't notice the identification link when I was looking at that page late last night. It must have been too late. :)
