Colourful Spider - Zygiella nearctica

Colourful Spider - Zygiella nearctica
White Fox, Torch River, Saskatchewan, Canada
July 2, 2011
Found about 4 feet above the ground at 8:AM in a tangle of web attached to the North East inside corner of my house. Shade after 9:00 AM. Below it a patch of wild forest ground cover, moss, lingon berry, rose bush, etc.
The web. Two Cat-faced spiders above it and a Long-jawed spider below it, I have it stored in my "Another Cobweb Spider" folder.
Similar to Zygiella http://bugguide.net/node/view/230840/bgimage

Interesting. If you were willing to collect a specimen (preserved in alcohol), John S. might be interested in seeing it; if not, then I would.

Judging by the maps and notes in Dondale et al. 2003, all of the central and northern inland NA specimens should be Z. nearctica. (For me the spider looks very much like x-notata.) There is this specimen, for example:

To do list - specimen
8 months from now hopefully I'll get one.
Not sure how many I looked at trying to find a match before I stumbled onto this page. My Area!

Yes, those species lists can be a big help for cross-checking, initial searches, etc. Thanks for the link.

Moved
Moved from ID Request. Great job. These are the first images we have for this species. I think your ID must be correct based on range.

Or great luck
Thank you Lynette. At the time I stopped for three quick pictures of spooky spider shadows.
