according to (1) and (2) the difference in these guys are the oklahomensis has two different size pronotal punctures... is there a different way to tell the difference.

Its hard to get the right lighting for those miniscule details to show up!

Onthophagus
Looking at the full size of your image, I only see punctures of one size, so I would lean towards O. pennsylvanicus. If there were two sizes of punctures, it should be easily seen.
