Black ground beetle - Pterostichus melanarius

Black ground beetle - Pterostichus melanarius
Fredericton, York County, New Brunswick, Canada
May 29, 2009
Seen at night near house. Similar to an image I have id'd as Pterostichus.

Moved tentatively
Moved from Ground Beetles.

Pterostichus melanarius (Illiger)
Hard yo be certain without a closer look, but its a good bet that this is Pterostichus melanarius (Illiger). This species has a small tooth at the pronotal base, which seems to be visible in the above photo.

does look like Pterostichus
I won't hazard a guess to species though
