Brown Stink Bug - Menecles insertus

Brown Stink Bug - Menecles insertus
Parkwood, Durham County, North Carolina, USA
June 24, 2006
Size: 16 mm
This was hanging out on a shrub in my garden in the late afternoon. I did not see it do much--seemed to be on the alert. It allowed a few photographs and then flew off.

Size estimated. Identification based on other images in guide.

Nice image.
I honestly don't know if there is more than one species of Menecles in the U.S. You might double-check.

Two species listed
Good point. Nearctica.com lists Menecles inserta Say 1832 and Menecles portacrus Rolston 1973.
North Carolina State University Entomology Collection lists just one species, inserta.
