Sphinx moth unknown.. - Erinnyis alope
Brownsville, Cameron County, Texas, USA
December 6, 2011
Size: Large moth..
I found this large moth cold-stunned in my yard. At first I thought it to be a common hornworm moth, after close examination I think it may be Cocytius antaeus In particular the orange patches on the hindwing and the strong veining or ribs of the forewing have me puzzled. Thanks.

Papaya sphinx?
That makes sense.. it was found in my papaya forest. I've seen large frass droppings there on and off during the year, never could spot the caterpillar doing the work. Thanks.
