Thevenetimyia californica? - Thevenetimyia californica - female

Thevenetimyia californica? - Thevenetimyia californica - Female
Pine Mountain, Los Padres National Forest, Ventura County, California, USA
July 10, 2010
This looks a lot like Thevenetimyia californica. Found just below ridge at (~6000 ft) on a calm morning in a floriferous area.

It was nectaring here on flowers of the perennial Eriastrum densifolium ssp. elongatum, in the Phlox family (Polemoniaceae).

I saw another bee fly like this a short while later...a different individual, as it had a small tear in the posterior edge of its left wing. It was nectaring on flowers of Eriodictyon (Turricula) parryi in the Waterleaf family, Hydrophyllaceae (recently subsumed into the Borage family, Boraginaceae).

I don't have the key with me, but I believe you're correct; from what I remember, the wing pattern of this species is pretty much diagnostic.

Moved from Bee Flies.

Thanks, Joel
I appreciate your expert knowledge and help :-)
