Checkered-fringe Prominent (Morning-glory Prominent) - Schizura ipomaeae Sarasota, Sarasota County, Florida, USA November 22, 2011
While collecting oak leaves for another caterpillar, I spotted a lump on the edge of a leaf. What a nice surprise! (According to Wagner's Caterpillars of Eastern North America p. 314, this species probably does not feed on Morning Glory. He suggests the name Checkered-fringe Prominent which describes the adult forewings.) I fed it oak leaves from the same tree I found it feeding.
