This insect appeared in my backyard on 6/27 and 6/28. I have Great Danes and it seems to be feeding on the dog's residual poop. The two bands on the back are yellow. It is a quick mover and hovers. Need to know if it is dangerous and can cause harm to the dogs.

moths often get hydrated by sucking on feces...i learned this last summer by photographing a beautiful pearl crescent on a lovely pile of dog poop.

Moth
This is a Sphingid moth. Specifically, this is the Nessus Sphinx, Amphion floridensis. Feeds on grape, creeper, blackberry.
