Strongylocassis atripes?
cool bug

ID confirmed by E.G.Riley: Strongylocassis atripes (J.L.LeConte)
his comment: "wide, shelf-like extension of the explanate elytral margin at the suture; not present in Charidotella."

That was
one of my guesses but I don't like to guess.

don't worry, i'll ask the gurus
btw, a ventral might help a lot

Except
I no longer have access to the specimen. It's from a 4 year project at Iowa State: http://www.nrem.iastate.edu/research/patchburn/
