Skipper - Amblyscirtes hegon

Skipper - Amblyscirtes hegon
North Carolina, USA
June 27, 2006
What is it?

Moved
Pepper and Salt looks like a good match.

Moved
Moved from Butterflies.

skipper
Have you considered southern cloudywing, Thorybes bathyllus?

.
The wings have to much white don't they?

Skipper
This is certainly not a Dusted Skipper. It appears to be an Amblyscirtes but dammed if I know for sure which one this is in Carolina. It could be just a very unusual Pepper and Salt Skipper.

Dusted skipper?
White line above eye, white spot at base of hindwing below are characters that fit dusted skipper.

Yes
It's a Skipper. But I'm not sure what species though.

How about...
I thinks it is one of the Roadside skippers (Amblyscirtes sp.) as well.

The "checkered" alternating dark and light pattern along the wing margins always makes me think of this genus. That's about as far as I get!

salt and pepper
It looks more similar to this one. What do you all think?

Moved
to grass skippers for now.
