Beetle or Weevil? - Scyphophorus acupunctatus

Beetle or Weevil? - Scyphophorus acupunctatus
Brownsville, Texas Palo Alto National Battlefield site., Cameron County, Texas, USA
November 20, 2011
Size: 18MM approximately
This interesting Beetle or Weevil has an oddly articulated head. It is perched on the carcass of a dead Yucca treculeana and in some respects looks like a Yucca beetle.. but I make no claim it emerged from or was otherwise more than just sitting on that plant.

Moved from Rhynchophorus.

Or how about this...
Scyphophorus acupunctatus Gyllenhal. I lightened up a copy of the image to see the metepimeron, which is too narrow to be Rhynchophorus. Also not sufficiently huge to be Rhynchophorus, which are larger than 25 mm. Truncate elytral apex and concave ends of antennae point to S. acupunctatus rather than S. yuccae.

Thanks and..
Thanks for the info.. may I ask if you have an opinion on the small 'bugs' or parasites? attached to this guy?

thanks again, Jason; good eye!
