Size: 3.5
Found resting on vinyl siding. Thought at first, becase of colored hairs on dark base, that this was a der*mestid. But those antennae tell me it's something else - what?

Novelsis aequalis
This is a dermestid beetle. The species has turned up indoors in CT three times in the last three years. A paper by Kingsolver and Fales (1974) in the U.S.D.A. Cooperative Economic Insect Report (vol. 24: 818-820) views this species as a potential household insect in the eastern U.S.

Yeah, we got it sorted out
about four years ago. It was a head-scratcher for awhile there.

strange
The body looks like a dermestid or maybe Mycetophagidae, but the antenna look like an anobiid.

but a pretty aberrant one in either case.
