This fly had horizontal stripes on abdomen and vertical stripes on thorax. It was spotted on a Trumpet's Flower tree leaf.

According to Huckett 1975 (The Muscidae of California)(download here: http://essig.berkeley.edu/documents/cis/cis18.pdf), there are only tigrina and humilis, and with the black legs it should be humilis. I have no idea if there are more species, because this is not my group, but all the evidence so far points to humilis...
